It’s basically a woven woolen rug/blanket, right? I would look at this store in Santa Fe, NM, called Jackalope. Many years ago, when I lived in Santa Fe, you could get inexpensive wool blankets and rugs there. I think that they were made in Mexico. My cheap wool blanket/rug from this store lasted me at least 10 years. Here is their link:
sometimes on quokka they sell them cheap depends on if you want it new or a good secondhand or try europa they have a sale on cotton summer ones at the moment
Try craigslist.org in the pet or farm section
Depends where you live, in the UK there’s (down the side its got turnout, stable, fly rug etc) and.
Hope this helped, the second ones cheaper!
You don’t really save money by buying a cheap horse blanket. Bottom line is they don’t last worth a darn. I remember buying cheap blankets and the next morning finding them in shreads.
I’ve owned several of these blankets and they have held up VERY nicely.
I buy my horse blankets and turnout from Schnieders at, most of the time I try to check for when they are having sales on their blankets, ususally off season, and save them for when I need them.
Its true when they say “you get what you pay for”.
If you buy a really cheap rug now, it may not last long.
But also what you can pay for with rugs and other horse gear is the overheads a lot of big manufacturers have, such as advertising, and managing a big business. Also alot of companies with a good “name” may hike up the price of their stock because yes, it probably is good quality, but also people are willing to buy that brand name and will spend the extra $$$.
I don’t know where you live, but when I did my research I used google local search to find horse rug makers in my general area. Also the phone directory could help. Some people make horse rugs as a backyard industry kinda thing, and sell them on the internet. These ones should be pretty good, as they are individually handmade, but can be cheaper because the small business does not have the big manufacturers costs.
Also, then you are supporting a small local business in your area.
