Stable blanket/cooler?

I want to get my horses a stable blanket or cooler, I just can’t decide which one to get. I am still training my barrel horse throughout the winter, and he usually sweats, because I’m getting him into shape for the show season (I always cool him out before putting him back outside).
I would also like to get a blanket that my pleasure horse can wear in the trailer and overnight before a show.

What do you guys think of this blanket?

I am looking for one like this, but I need a size 80 or 82.

Would a blanket that is too big cause any major problems? My pleasure horse is a blanket size 78, and my barrel horse is an 80 or 82 (can wear both).

I can’t afford to get two blankets right now.

Any suggestions appriciated.
What do you think of this one too?

I know a stable blanket and a cooler are different things, but there are some that serve both purposes, like the first link.

Like I said before, I want one that will help my semi-out-of-shape barrel horse cool off after a workout, and one that my pleasure horse can wear before a show and/or in the trailer.

I like the first one! I guess i put on a larger blanket on my horse when he was in the trailer and nothing happened but he really didn’t move around too much. Maybe make sure they can’t get their legs stuck in any way they should be fine. Or maybe pin it up when you put it on the smaller horse. For some odd reason horses can get stuck it the most weird positions :)

The first one is a proper rug/cooler and more of what I think you are looking for, the second one is just an anti- sweat sheet.(it serves no purpose on its own,it needs to be worn under a blanket to allow the air to circulate so the horse dries quickly.) As for sizing, make sure it fits in the chest and not too big, otherwise it will shift back and rub the shoulders and possibly the withers. (If it arrives and is a little large, put it on in a forward position and use a padded roller).

a stable rug and cooler are different things… a stable rug is a thin rug used in the stable on cold nights or sometimes when traveling… like this..

A cooler is used on a sweating horse to allow them to cool down after exercising whilst sweating and to dry off by allowing water to evaporate but keeping the warmth. Also fleese one is common for traveling, it comes in different matterials like mesh….
    or fleese
    or net

and yes… if it is too big and you plan on leaving the horse in it while travelling or overnight it will not be supervised and could catch it’s legs in the straps and at worst break its leg also it wont be as warm and can rub.

These are my personal favorites for shows and overnight.
And yes a blanket that is to big can cause problems. If they do not fit correctly, then a horse could get tangled very easily.

Look at the honeycomb chill chaser (they are on sale frequently for $19.99)http://www.doversaddlery.com/honeycomb-chill-chaser-horse-sheet/p/X1-24273/cn/71/

I’ve used mine as a cooler, stable sheet, or underlayer when it is cold. I find that it is just the right weight for trailer in cooler weather. It has held up very well (3+ years, multiple top-load machine washings). Not ment for outdoor use though.
