what is the different from a stable sheet and a turnout blanket?

i have been blanket shopping and i want to know what the difference is other then one says turnout and one says stable. i am looking at a stable sheet that is what i need (waterproof, fill, everything) but my horse might be turned out sometimes. will the stable sheet suffice?

Turnout sheets are cut a little differently to allow for movement and prevent rubbing. They are generally a little tougher as well, and may have extra straps to hold it in place better. A stable sheet is meant to be worn in the stable where it stands little chance of being damaged and where the horse isn’t going to be moving around a lot. However, a lot of the horses at my barn have stable sheets that they occasionally get turned out in, though not for long periods of time. I live in FL, so it is only cold for a few hours in the mornings.

A stable sheet has less fill (Heavyweight – 370g
    Mediumweight – 200g
Lightweight – No Fill it will vary depending on the blanket) and are not as warm they are also not made with the same fabric as a turnout. A turn out sheet is a warmer and has more fill also they dont rip as easy and stand a better change with lasting through the winter. If you say the stable sheet has what you need and has a high % in a fill then it should be just fine. My horse goes out in the winter with a Mediumweight with a lightweight on top of that!!

A stable sheet is used to cover the horse “in the stable” hince the word “stable” sheet. A turn-out rug is used when you “turn-out” your horse in the pasture. Turn-outs are water-proof, and most stable sheets aren’t. Just ask the person at the check-out, they can help you
