Horse Blanket Basics
There are several different types of blankets that can be important additions to your tack room and definitely can help your horse in staying comfortable in all types of weather conditions. Blankets will vary in both weight and materials, depending on where and how they are to be used. Since putting a blanket on a horse can really help in keeping them warm, helping them to cool down slowly or even in keeping pesky flies away, it is a good idea to have several different blankets available to meet your horse’s needs.
Need some advice on blankets?
I just bought a horse and I am now looking for blankets for her. I need to know what kind of blanket to buy. I live in Pa so the winters can get pretty cold here. I definitely want a turnout blanket. Do you think I need a stable blanket? I spent more on this horse than I was originally planning (fell in love 
) and so I am a bit tight on cash. Does anyone know of any good cheap brands? What things should I look for in a turnout blanket? What features should it have? How heavy should it be? Thanks!!

is this a good heavy blanket for cold winter nights. we have a 15 yr old quarter horse. he’s a little skinny now so i want something to help keep him warm while hes grazing. ps we didn’t starve him hes a rescue,we’ve only had him 2 weeks

I am looking to buy a new winter blanket for my clipped horse. If I do not buy a turnout blanket, can I still turn him out safely with a heavy stable blanket? Or do I need to specifically buy a turnout blanket? thanks
Now that I need a turnout blanket, since my horse is a 72 stable blanket should I go up a size for turnout? Usually I see horses with turnouts that look bigger than they should be.
What sorts of blankets will my pony need?
My new large pony is clipped. I have shown 8yrs but just now am I having a pony at my house that doesn’t have a winter coat. She will be turned out most of the day, probably 9 – 5 or 8 – 6 depending and kept in as long as bad weather persists. I live where it like never snows, but can be really cold esp. at night. (not like below zero or anything that dramatic, more in the 20’s – 30’s F) So I need to know what different types of blankets I will need. I know I need a water proof turnout, but medium or heavy weight? And since we do big shows I want to have a cooler to put on her between classes to help her keep warm and such. So is a stable blanket nessacary? I thought I could put her sheet/cooler under her blanket if I needed to layer, at night in her stall…. I really don’t want to spend a lot on blankets. I like shopping at dover.com, so if you could reccomend certain blankets (turnouts and sheets, please) ones that are not too expensive but ARE GOOD QUALITY that would be nice. Thanks.
What blankets do you need for horses?
Ok.. So i mean blankets as like Stable Blanket, stable sheet….. What i would like to know is what all blankets do you recommend me buying?? for the summer like turnouts and the winter blankets… please anything helps
