Blanketing horses for winter? Blanket rippers?

Hi,

I was just going through some of my winter horse gear and found that some of my light sheets (I put them on under winter blankets- they’re easier to wash) need replacing. I was wondering if a fly sheet would work instead of a summer sheet or light stable blanket for underneath? And if there are any reasons I shouldn’t use one? Also, has anyone out there found a way to stop blanket rippers? I have one gelding that rips long strips off the other horses blankets- he ruined about 4 last winter. I’ve started converting to rip-stop blankets, but it’s expensive.
